Each Row of Tunisian Crochet is made up of a forward pass (FwdP) and a return pass (RetP)
For this piece you will not turn the work but work in rows, starting from right to left (forward pass) and left to right (return pass).
The basic Tunisian Stitch is abbreviated (TSS).
Lets first go over a few techniques we will need., then we can give the Tunisian puff a go......
FwdP
I do not count the first loop on the hook as a stitch, when you start a row you work into the vertical bars from the previous row (Do not work into the vertical bar on the edge of your row)
*With your yarn at the back, insert the hook from right to left behind the vertical bar, yo, pull up a loop and leave loop on the hook, *repeat this section until you get the the end of the row
RetP
YO and pull through one loop on the hook (again I do not count this as a stitch). *Yo and pull through 2 loops on the hook, *repeat this section until one loop remains.
For this pattern you will need to TssInc (Increase)
With your yarn at the back, insert the hook from right to left behind the bar, yo, pull up a loop, we add the increase next, insert hook under the horizontal bar before the next vertical bar, yo and pull up a loop, continue to Tss to the last two vertical bars, again insert hook under the horizontal bar, yo and pull up a loop, finish off the row, your return pass will remain the same.
To Tss2tog (Decrease)
With yarn at the back, insert hook from right to left through two vertical bars, yo and pull up a loop, cont to Tss until the last two vertial bars, again insert hook through two vertical bars, yo and pull up an loop, your return pass will remain the same.
Need more help then how about this amazing Craftsy (now called blueprint) class for >>>>beginners to Tunisian crochet<<<<
Now for the pattern
You will need a 3.5mm
crochet hook
(its does not need to be a Tunisian hook due
to the small nature of the project)
Stash yarn (I used
DK)
Yarn ends/snips OR
stuffing (to stuff your puffs)
Get the free pattern on my website
The amount of stuffing or yarn snips that you decide to put in your puff is up to personal preference. You may want a soft and squidgy puff or a firmer puff.
Join your Tunisian Puffs together again with a simple whip stitch.
I hope you enjoy making this Tunisian puffs, please do come back and share what you make with them.
There have been so many lovely ideas around what they could become once joined together and I would love to make a blog post with all your lovely creations.
I also intend to do some cross stitch designs/motifs on my puffs as they seem to make the perfect base for cross stitch designs. So make sure you come back to see how that turns out.
Happy Crocheting xx.
